OUR FAMILY
First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Petra N***ová and I’m 18 years old, I was born on **th July 1990 in Písek. In years 1996 to 2001 I attended the primary school in N***. In the 5th class I decided to go to a secondary school in Milevsko. I passed the exams and in September 2001 I could start to attend the secondary school. After I’ll pass my school-leaving exam, I’d like to study at the university, I’d like to study Czech language and literature or German language and literature at the Charles University in Prague, but I have to pass the entrance exams first.
I live with my family in a flat in a small village K*** near N***. Our family is not big, it consists of four members: me, my brother and my parents. My extended family isn’t big neither – I have two uncles, one aunt and two cousins.
MY FATHER. My father’s name is Milan and he’s 49 years old. He is tall and quite fat, has short black hair and wears glasses. He works as a safety inspector in Budweis. He works a lot, sometimes he stays at work at night and he also often goes on official trips. My father is sociable, but he is also a little selfish and choleric. He likes nature, he cares for bees, but he is allergic to them. He also likes watching sport on TV, especially football, his favourite team is Sparta Praha.
MY MOTHER. My mother’s name is Jaroslava. She’s 48 years old, but I think she looks younger than she is. She is the smaller member of our family and she’s slim. She has short brown hair and green eyes and she also wears glasses. She is a teacher in the primary school in J***. She teach history and geography. She is impatient and hard-working. She likes cooking and reading about history.
MY BROTHER. My brother Radek is 19 years old, he is slim and very tall. He has short dark brown hair and green eyes and wears glasses like my parents do. He is very clever, he studies Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. He likes playing on computer, reading science fiction books, watching series and playing chess. He is also a member of a dance group called EFK. He has a very beautiful girlfriend, she is clever and likes the same series like me and my brother.
GRANDPARENTS. I really like all of my grandparents, but unfortunately I can’t say that all my grandparents still live, because my grandfather from my father’s side died of cancer in October. My grandmother from my father’s side lives in Tábor, but she used to go in the cottage for weekends when my grandfather was alive. My grandparents from my mother’s side live in the same village as me, so I visit them very often. They farm animals – rabbits and hens, they also have a dog and a lot of cats.
GENERATION GAP. My family is very important to me. I like my brother the most, because we have a lot of hobbies in common and I think he understand me much more than my parents. My parents are very friendly and nice although sometimes they are tired and become moody. It is common that there are differences between the generations and so it is in our family, too. Sometimes they don’t like the kind of music I listen to, sometimes they don’t like my clothes, they have different priorities and we argue about little things. But I think that it is normal. The main thing is that I can rely on them and they always help me. In the future I would like to have a family like ours.
